Cardamom, sometimes called cardamon or cardamum is a spice made from the seeds of several plants in the Genera Elettaria and Amomum in the family Zingiberaca. Cardamom plant is native to India and Sri Lanka originating in the forest of the Western Ghats in Southern India. Cardamom is the world’s third most expensive spice, surpassed in price per weight by vanilla and saffron.
Apart from Cardamom, it is also known as cluster cardamom, lesser cardamom, Malabar cardamom, round cardamom, Siam cardamom, Ceylon cardamom and cardamom seeds.
